400 S. Old Woodward, Suite 300, in the heart of downtown.
A limited docket means your case gets the attention it requires.
When the stakes are high — your children, your home, your business, your future — the lawyer you hire matters more than the firm's logo on the door. Dizik | Kaplan was built around a simple idea: fewer cases, handled better.
You will work with Jordan Dizik, not a rotating cast of associates and paralegals. The person you meet at your consultation is the person who will appear in court.
Oakland County Circuit Court has its own rhythms, its own expectations, and its own bench. Knowing how a particular judge approaches custody, how the Friend of the Court handles a referral, or how a mediator is likely to push a settlement is the kind of practical knowledge you only get from showing up — repeatedly — in the same courthouse.
Many family law disputes are won or lost long before a courtroom is involved. We focus first on what outcome you actually need, then on the most efficient path to get there — whether that means a focused negotiation, a well-prepared mediation, or a fully litigated trial.
Every case prepared as if it will be tried, which is the surest way to settle on favorable terms when settlement is the right outcome.
Closely held businesses, deferred compensation, real estate portfolios, and retirement assets handled with the appropriate forensic and valuation support.
Original determinations, modifications, and Friend of the Court matters.
Spousal support, child support, parenting time changes, and enforcement.
Drafted to be enforceable and reviewed for clients considering signing.
Divorce in Oakland County moves through a defined sequence: filing, preliminary motions, discovery and disclosure, Friend of the Court referrals where children are involved, mediation, and — if necessary — trial. Most cases settle before trial, but the cases that settle on favorable terms are almost always the ones that were prepared as if they wouldn't.
Michigan imposes a default 60-day waiting period for divorces without minor children and 180 days for those with children, under MCL 552.9f. In practice, courts will often waive these periods when the parties reach a comprehensive settlement before they expire and jointly request the waiver. On the other end, Oakland County Circuit Court actively manages its docket and will not allow a contested case to remain open indefinitely — most matters resolve within 12 months of filing, by settlement or by trial.
